History is filled with bold individuals who seized their visions and fought for them. At Dead Idol, we embrace the courage and drive of those legends and strive to carry on their fight for originality and truth to self.
Formally established in 2009, Dead Idol Design and Productions LLC began as many other non-corporate firms: in the garage. For eight years, the founder of Dead Idol, Holland Hume, worked independently with companies and individuals to make their visions a reality. In his work, he held one credo close to his heart: Design is not art.
Graphic design utilizes many different art mediums in order to achieve its goal, its final product, but it is not in itself art. Graphic design is a logic problem. The customer provides the designer with a vision or an idea, “Red.” The designer then gleans from the customer both through direct and indirect interaction details about the customer. The kind of mood or reaction the customer wants the final product to stir within people when viewing it, the philosophy and purpose behind the customer’s company, the intended audience, etc. This is “Blue.” The job of the designer is not to make art. Art is created and sculpted in the eye of the artist. It follows their own personal vision or dream. The job of the designer is to take the “Red” and “Blue” and make “Purple.” If done well, the customer is left with a product that both accurately reflects their company yet still holds true to their original vision. Designers are not artists. They can be artists in their free time, but when they work they are not artists. Designers are creative thinkers and problem solvers. They are people who utilize art as well as many other sources and inspirations to connect the dots between people’s souls and their dreams.
By holding true to this credo and working hard give life to people’s visions, Holland was able to elevate Dead Idol Design and Productions to the level at which it exists today. With credited graphic design work and commercials in both America and Japan, Dead Idol is stretching its roots into the internet to further strengthen its growth and expansion.
